Review of Cinema Paradiso (1988) by Raphael G — 28 Dec 2013
Cinema Paradiso is one of the finest films for film fans that I can possibly think of. It's director Giuseppe Tornatore's love letter to cinema and to his childhood, but it's also one of the most endearing and entertaining films I've ever seen.
The story concerns a young Italian boy who becomes obsessed with films at the theater in his neighborhood and a projectionist who takes the boy under his wing and teaches him the tools of the trade. As the boy grows, the times change, people get hurt, people find love and people grow apart, which all plays into the ending of the film, which I don't want to spoil.
Caution though, you may want to keep plenty of Kleenex on hand. It's a beautiful film with an incredibly moving score by Ennio Morricone. If you have yet to see this gem, I highly recommend that you do so right away.
