Review of Cinderella II: Dreams Come True (2002) by Kerry G — 23 Jun 2007
This is not actually one story, but several shorter ones in one movie. I find it endlessly amusing that Disney even pretends this movie never happened, as one of the storylines directly contradicts the set-up for the third movie.
Not as good as the third one, but decent enough in its own right. The voice-acting, like in the third, was striking only for its bizarreness. Cinderella's singing voice sounds like a completely different person than her speaking voice (which, ya know, it probably is).
There are no glaring problems like the third one, but it just kinda feels pointless. It focuses a bit much on class distinction though, which would be completely appropriate were it the 19th century and England.
Unfortunately it's not, so the movie kinda suffers for that. Like the Shrek sequels, the movie tries to hard to be a movie rather than fairy tale, which is what made the originals so endearing. I give it a solid "meh".
