Review of Chungking Express (1994) by Priyanka B — 26 Jun 2009
On first viewing, this movie is highly disorienting. On second viewing, it makes for riveting cinema, a bit like reality TV but with much more art and depth. I fell in love with both the lovesick cops in the movie, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Tony Leung.
Wong Kar Wai definitely has a rhythm to his films, and this one is a perfect example. He's especially adept at portraying melancholy and alienation in a crowd. Oh and be ready to hear "California Dreaming" many, many, many times.
