Review of Chungking Express (1994) by Keenan S — 29 Mar 2018
Chungking Express is a beautiful anthology romance film. It involves everything from love-struck cops to a woman who is obsessed with the Mamas and Papas song, "California Dreamin'' falling in love.
Most importantly, it is a film about finding love, even in strange places at a train station. There's a lot of chemistry going on in the film and the characters are very involving and unusual, which is quite the contrary compared to most other romantic films.
With all that goes on in this film, it's hard not be engaged in the lives of the colorful cast of characters as they find love or seek out love. If you're tired of the usual cliches of romance films, Chungking Express is a film that will quench your need for something unique and engaging.
It's also superbly acted, aiding to the chemistry and intensity of each romance. It's one of the most underrated film of the 90's.
