Review of Chrysalis (2007) by Antti M — 08 Feb 2009
Beautiful to look at but spending time with it is a chore. Some excellent visuals, though the cinematography is far too desaturated. Minority Report got that right on the bleakness level. Here it borders on black and white.
The acting is wonderful and the film doesn't rely so much on it's futuristic vision to engage you. Only problem is that the story just isn't enough to slap you about. It tries hard to deal with issues of identity and memory, but in the end there isn't one character that is interesting.
A nice one take chase scene is a highlight and uses many effects to great use. It feels like an action film that has just woken up and hasn't had it's coffee yet.
