Review of Chrysalis (2007) by Demetris H — 05 Sep 2009
Interesting premise and an attractive style. The story is split between a French cop who is hunting a known criminal and a french girl who appears to have survived a nasty car crash and is being looked after in a private clinic run by her mother. As you would expect, the two stories start to develop on their own and eventually converg - bringing the troubled cop and the girl together and revealing the secrets of chrysalis.
Visually the film is reminiscent of Minority report - everything is very metalic and sleek - Pretty much everything appears to be automated or controlled by voice command. Action sequences are few, the hand to hand combat is impressive, albeit a bit forced, and the shootouts might as well not be there.
My main gripe about the whole thing was the way the story kind of trickled information to the viewer - If one wasn't paying attention then they would be confused until the last 10 minutes of the film - and even then you don't get a full revelation of what the story is all about.
Overall its a decent view but there are better films out there which cover similar premises and do it better - but there are also films which try to do it and fail compared to this film.
