Review of Christmas in Connecticut (1945) by John D — 11 Dec 2009
Another Christmas movie. I had heard of this movie for years, but never ventured in fearing it to be a musical. After seeing it in a TCM Holiday 4-Pack with Shop Around the Corner, A Christmas Carol, and It Happened on 5th Ave.
I took a chance. Not a musical, to my delight. This movie focuses on a Magazine Writer, played by Barbara Stanwyck and an injured GI. The movie is a romantic screwball comedy. It is pretty tightly paced and there is plenty of humorous situations throughout.
The acting is sturdy and the characters are entertaining and work well with each other. Its S.Z. Sakall that steals the show however, his performance as Stanwyck's friend is very funny. This is an okay movie, worth watching and sometimes funny.
Stanwyck in the lead leaves something to be desired. It was good but not classic.
