Review of Christmas in Connecticut (1945) by Allan C — 24 Dec 2013
Barbara Stanwyck plays a 1940s Martha Stewart, but is a complete fraud and finds herself having to host a a returning war veteran at her country estate, which she also doesn't really have, as part of a publicity stunt.
Comedy ensues. It's a fairly standard classic Hollywood comedy, but a good cast makes it better than average. Stanwyck is terrific as always, as is Dennis Morgan as the returning war vet who begins falling for Stanwyck, who is also pretending to be married.
Sydney Greenstreet plays her publisher. Arnold Schwarzenegger would later direct a remake in 1992.
