Review of Chop Shop (2008) by John M — 31 Dec 2008
I really don't see what all the fuss is about this movie. I'm sure that, given the budget and means, it's pulled off very well. That doesn't make it good though. It's essentially a guy with a handheld following this kid around as he works in an auto shop, lives in a box of a room in the back with his sister, flirts with crime like twice, and saves up for a roachcoach.
That's not something I care about watching, honestly. A 30 minute PBS special about a kid like this would have the same effect and save time. Plus his sister is a bad actress, and the kid's stoic, unresponsive behavior regarding her whoring herself out takes the plot nowhere.
I probably would have turned this off if I weren't browsing the net and playing Left 4 Dead for the second half.
