Review of Chop Shop (2008) by David S — 11 Feb 2010
Reminiscent of The 400 Blows in style and subject, Chop Shop is a lively, colourful and challenging film. Despite its minimal narrative, the film is kept moving with powerful imagery, gritty characters and unspoken tensions - it is a moving and enjoyable ride.
Initially the main character, Ale, seems more than a little wooden in his acting, however by close even this seems to have become integral within his difficult existence. Chop Shop feels effortless and is an easy 5-star recommendation.
