Review of Choke (1971) by Jason M — 14 Mar 2010
This was a pretty quirky movie that featured one of the more interesting plot lines I've seen in a while. At times it's a bit too ridiculous for itself, but at it's core the movie definitely has a lot of heart with the relationship that Sam Rockwell's character has with his mother.
It's really sad and heart warming to see what happens and to see everything their relationship goes through from all the flashbacks and such. It's a nice bit of storytelling. Outside of Rockwell and Huston though, everyone else's performances fell kinda flat.
They were the only two that have believable characters and at times they were the only ones that I felt even knew what they were doing. I appreciated the ending though, it was a nice touch and a good way to finish off the whole ride.
It was thoroughly entertaining and if you can see past some of the ridiculous plot points it is a pretty deep movie.
