Review of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968) by Mimi S — 02 Jan 2014
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a fun kiddy film that grown ups will love too. Dick Van Dyke's English accent may not be much good, but he still gives a good performance and it's really hard not to like him. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a musical about a motorcar which is much loved by two children, Jeremy and Jemima. Their father Caracticus Potts (Van Dyke) is an (unsuccessful) inventor and storyteller. Together Caracticus, the children and Truly Scrumptious (the upper class lady whom the children befriend and a love interest for their widowed father) go on an adventure with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. CCBB is cheerful with catchy songs. It's a heartwarming classic that even adults will watch over and over! You can tell that there are some dodgy special effects, but that doesn't ruin or get in the way of the film or it's spirit. This film brings out the inner kid in me.
