Review of Child's Play (1993) by Katy R — 18 Oct 2009
By far the very best of the series. And I'm proud to say I first saw this film when I was 4, making this the first Horror film, I remember seeing number 2 was Evil Dead and number 3 was Return of the Living Dead. So needless to say I had a pretty decent starting run in the Horror genre, and it's probably why it's my favorite genre.
Anyway on to Child's Play, the film opens with Brad Dourif running from Chris Sarandon, Dourif is playing the role of the Iconic "Chucky" aka: Charles Lee Ray or aka: the LakeShore Strangler. When Dourif is chased into, a toy store by Sarandon. He is shot and dying, he then transfers his soul into one of the "Good Guy" dolls, becoming the Legendary shit talking slasher we all know and love.
Cathrine Hicks puts up an amazing performance as Andy's mother, Andy is the child Chucky is after so he can be human again, not just human but 8 years old again. The film is filled to the brim with voodoo and macabre themes. Making this a great Horror film. But the Person who truly steals the show is Dourif, His voice talent in this film is great, and unmistakeable. This film might not have gone over so well without Dourif, he is a really a solid performer in most everything he does, even he is not on camera, which really shows the level of talent he has.
As you can tell I am very found of the original, Child's Play and mabye slightly biased due to the fact that it was my very first Horror movie. But even so this film still shines.
