Review of Children of Men (2006) by Jon M — 15 May 2014
As a huge fan of the Science-Fiction genre, I am psyched whenever I see a fresh science-fiction concept. Alien invasion? Stil interestingl, but I've been there, seen/read that. Robots and machines becoming self-aware? Eh, interesting but it's been around for a while. Time travel? Seen better days, and has been around since H.G. Wells' heyday.
But a quasi-pre-apocalyptic scenario where humanity is seemingly on the brink of extinction due to infertility? If it's been introduced before, I haven't seen/heard of it. And that's why I loved this film so much. So down to Earth, so "it could happen" type feelings. So, of course, I had to see it.
And as you can tell by the rating, I was not disappointed. All of the actors gave a stunning performance, especially Michael Caine as the elderly stoner, and the message that this film sent was one of the strongest messages I've ever seen in a science-fiction film, thus far. Kudos to Cuaron!
