Review of Chicken Run (2000) by Charlie H — 19 Jul 2017
Chicken Run is the first of many delightful masterstrokes from the genii at Aardman Studios; a perfect children's film. In fact, it's wonderful entertainment for children & adults alike. A golden script incorporates delightful wit and hilarious slapstick.
Chicken Run (as all great family films do) challenges its audience. Its keen observations of both human and animal nature provoke reflection. The predicament that the lovable characters battle in Chicken Run makes for an absorbing spectacle.
The animation is, of course, exemplary. Chicken Run's ingenuity sets it apart. The motivations behind action make said action riveting. Fantastic voice acting brings the story alive. Chicken Run is perfectly paced, allowing optimal emotional investment in characters before action really gets going.
It's all so well thought through. I'd be delighted to battle anyone who claims Chicken Run doesn't belong with the classics.
