Review of Chicago (1927) by Iwan D — 13 Dec 2013
I'm personally not a massive fan of the show Chicago, and so I wasn't expecting much going into the film adaptation, and in all honesty, I didn't get much. After the first 10 minutes of seeing all the actors performing their songs on stage, in cutaways from the actual film on, the whole 'All the world's a stage' concept got a bit tedious.
The first half of the film is incredibly boring, and although everything comes to together and unravels at the end, I saw no reason why the first half had to be so dull. There are positives to this film, which are the story can be quite interesting (if you stick with it) and John.
C. Reilly and Renee Zellweger give very good performances, and the few stand-out songs of the film all contained them two. After hearing lots about Zeta-Jones' performance, I was disapointed. She played the part, but in my opinion, anyone could've.
All in all, just a very poorly concieved adaptation that I didn't really see the fuss about.
