Chi-Raq plays out like a musical strapped to a political agenda. Many are calling Spike Lee's newest film "urgent", while others claim it's over the top. My opinion lies somewhere between.
It's entertaining and funny in certain aspects, but it's often very preachy and the combination of those elements don't add up to a completely satisfying movie experience. Still, Chi-Raq is worth a watch.
The Lee of the '90s was known for this type of work, and it has been a long time since one of his films have been up to this standard.
