Review of Chasing Mavericks (2012) by Steve S — 26 Oct 2012
I went to the Old Geezers Who Go To The Matinee Alone time slot and this was the only one starting, so despite my dislike of surfing movies and such I went. It was mildly boring except for a few scenes.
It is amazing how a film production can make the ocean, including big waves, dull, but they managed it. I know most people don't pay enough attention, but they had the same footage repeated over and over.
The actors all said their lines in the right places and there was a mild attempt to add some drama and romance, but none of it worked for me. Most of the other OGWGTTMA got up as soon as the credits rolled and left.
If you like surfing movies and/or surfing you'll probably like it. It was, it seems, based on the life of surfing phenom Jay Moriarity and that's interesting, but the movie isn't.
