Review of Chasing Mavericks (2012) by John P — 04 Nov 2012
As a native of Northern California, even though I am not a fan of surfing, I wanted to see this movie out of curiosity. Although the film was full of cliches used in similar type movies, I did find the emotional bond between Frosty Hesson and Jay Moriarity to be very touching.
Aside from the spectacular shots of the waves off Pillar Point, the pseudo-father/son relationship between the two main characters left me appreciating and understanding what true friendship is all about.
It should be understood that in many films regarding real-life characters, its difficult to consolidate so much time into a two hour cinematic project. I'm puzzled with the critic who claims the script is unconvincing when many have stated this is how Jay Moriarity lived his life.
