Review of Chasing Ice (2012) by John C — 17 Jan 2013
Too much footage of Balog's sore knee...
The only bit worth watching is the 'calving' footage near the end where a chunk of ice the size of lower Manhattan breaks off and slowly churns into the sea...quite spectacular and almost worth waiting for...unfortunately the rest of the film is quite slow consisting of installation of cameras, cameras not working, re-designing circuit boards, how James's knee is doing, how courageous James is, how James is so dedicated to the cause, how proud his wife and daughter are...
Its a very worthy cause obviously but the film doesnt tell us anything we dont already know.....unfortunately the whole thing feels like a vain monument to Balog's character as opposed to discussing the implications and ramifications of global warming.
