Review of Chasing Ice (2012) by Ryan K — 12 Sep 2013
If anyone still needs proof of climate change, here it is. A great story, and an astonishingly beautiful, and frightening, historical document of the melting of our northern glaciers. James Balog and his team set up time lapse cameras which photographed the melting and dying glaciers over periods up to around 4 years.
Just by being there they were also able to catch some spectacular calving events (when chunks of glacier break off and float away) in real time, including the biggest one ever caught on film, and possibly ever witnessed.
Seeing a piece of glacier larger in area than Manhattan, and easily 3 or 4 times the volume, break off and float to sea is a sight to behold. A must see documentary.
