While the protagonist brings a human element to the personified mother nature, he gets in the way of an important documentary. We don't need to feel his matyrism to take in the powerful message. If anything, it takes up time that could be used explaining the long term effects of his documentation.
The vision and facts are fascinating and terrifying. An important documentary.
