Review of Chasing Amy (1997) by Nate L — 27 Mar 2012
A successful comic book artist (Ben Affleck) meets a bewitching lady (Joey Lauren Adams) who turns out to be a lesbian. His feelings for her form the basis of Kevin Smith's study of gender roles, sexual prejudice, and the sensitivity of friendship.
Loosely based on Smith's actual relationship with Adams, Chasing Amy can be seen as a metaphor for both Smith's art and his personal feelings about sexuality. It's also a funny, relatable, and well-acted picture that is one of Smith's best efforts.
