Review of Charlie Wilson's War (2007) by Henning R — 03 Aug 2009
A movie (from the book) about the initiation of USA's covert war against Russia in Afghanistan is interesting, as I can only recall seeing cheesy late 80s action movies about the subject.
Tom Hanks is the easygoing congressman from Texas who's on the secret sub-comittee for black budget operations, and I think he's doing pretty good. Wilson is not presented as a character with too much depth, though. Julia Robertson does her scenes well, and Philip Seymour Hoffman is a great actor which manages to do make his part pretty central.
I'm left wondering how truthful this really is, as this undeniably is a strongly patriotic movie. But it's interesting, nonetheless...
