Review of Chapter 27 (2007) by Steven S — 30 Sep 2008
Chapter 27 had a lot of potential to be a great character study of an interestingly bizarre psychopath. Yet, instead of it coming across as such, it comes across and misguided and dull. The film seems more suited for an audio book than a feature film presentation.
I would say 95% of the film is narration, and while Leto's voice is creepy enough, the viewer is supposed to watch the actor display his emotions, not just have him read them aloud the entire film.
Leto's performance is memorable, but it is lost under the weak storytelling. It's also nice to see Lindsay Lohan do something not mainstream, but her efforts could have been put to better use somewhere else.
Overall, the film had potential to be something really marvelous, but don't bother wasting your time.
