Review of Chappie (2015) by Ali C — 17 Jul 2015
Oh how the mighty have fallen. I loved District 9 and really liked Elysium, but Blomkamp's third outing is by far his worst movie. I can't really see how people can defend this movie. The first 30 minutes were near fantastic, but after that the movie falls down a slide of stupidity, and cannonballs into a pool of absurdity.
Dev Patel and Hugh Jackman are great, but they aren't in the forefront. The 2 awful band members lead the cast, and they are truly awful. Martinez from "The Walking Dead" pals along with them, and he can't even make these guys bearable.
The plot starts getting stupider by the minute, and the last act makes zero sense whatsoever. Character motivations are completely confusing, and the ending not only rips off District 9 (as well as the beginning), but completely jumps the shark.
the more I think of this movie, the more I hate it. 3.5/10.
