Review of Centurion (2010) by Mike H — 22 Dec 2010
"My name is Quintus Dias, I am a soldier of Rome, and this neither the beginning nor the end of my story.".
In 2nd-century Britain, Roman fighter Quintas Dias is the lone survivor of a Pictish attack on a Roman frontier post. Eager for revenge, he joins the Ninth Legion and journeys north on a mission to destroy the Picts.
Centurion significantly lacks any meaningful dialogue in it's script, but Neil Marshall uses this fact to his advantage. Instead of trying to make the film some bloated epic, he directs a simple yet very fun action film.
Centurion is stylish; with lots of dismemberment, exciting parker through stunning environments filmed with tons of long shots, a romantic interest, and an intimidating lead female antagonist (and beautiful to boot :D ).
Centurion isn't Einstein, but it's style makes it a pleasant watch in the same way as Zack Snyder's 300. Plus it's a better movie too.
