Review of Centurion (2010) by Michael Z — 09 Jul 2011
It was late last night. I wasn't tired enough to sleep so I decided to see what Netflix had to offer. Being Canadian it wasn't much however I noticed this Neil Marshall directed movie starting Michael Fassbender(Magneto from First Class) and Dominic West(The Wire) which peaked my interest.
It had been a while since I enjoyed a good period flick. The last one I watched was 'The Last Legion' with academy award winner Colin Firth. Let's just say he didn't win an award for it nor did Aishwarya Rai in her action packed fights. Anyways back on topic...
I went into this flick with doubt and perhaps that is why I enjoyed it so much. The narration and character development was very good. The story idea was well developed and it was enjoyable to the end. The biggest thing about this flick is the realistic blood and gore. It really brings you in and you understand that these wars were fought with swords and bare hands. I enjoyed the realism throughout.
The movie itself wasn't flawless due to a few editing blunders and a feeling that the middle 30 minutes could have been improved.
If you like Roman times then I recommend checking this movie out.
