Review of Centurion (2010) by Mloy X — 05 Aug 2012
Centurion Quintus Dias (Fassedender): I've never seen a general so beloved of his men.
Bothos (: Well, in training he is our scholar, at feast he is our father,.
In the ranks he is our brother, and in battle he is the god, we pray, to save our souls.
It was alright, tolerable to watch, the dialogue not too bad, the acting fairly credible and the story okay. Overall, it was better than what I'd expected since there wasn't any real A-listers on the roster. But Michael Fassbender is a note-worthy, un-and-coming talent, so he was a cool lead and the rest of the cast wasn't bad at all; I mean it's not Shakespeare, but they did fairly well. I did love Olga Kurylenko's character Etain, she was bad ass! Thoroughly enjoyed a confident, strong woman character who can kick ass with the best of them while still look amazing doing it! Tracker, warrior, huntress and spy with both a sob story and a chip on her shoulder plus an ounce of killer skills, crazy-strength and a few loose screws, what a perfect villainess/anti-hero because according to her back story she's not really bad, just misunderstood and mistreated. My only complaint about this film was the gratuitous gore. I mean, seriously, you see blood splattering on the battlefield-- that's to be expected, but in almost every single sceen.....that just over kill (no pun intended); it was kind of distracting. For one thing, they went out of their way to make it as nasty as humanly possible and for another, the CG was horribly done. There nothing more disturbing than buckets of gore and blood, but buckets of obviously fake gore and blood is just downright sad.
