Review of Cemetery Junction (2010) by Scott G — 20 Apr 2010
Gervais and merchant write and direct there first feature together, after doing rather well in tv with extras and the office, here looking at life in 70s reading, cemetery junction. where 3 young lads take stock of there life, while partying at night, and working in a factory by day, one of them goes of to work for a insuence firm wanting to get away from what his dad does, and climb the company ladder.
a thoughtful look at friendship family, and wanting to get away, with some touching moments throughout, the 70s setting looking great, a lot of this based on gervaise growing up in reading, and it does show.
he lends some weight by playing the dad, and along with emily watson, theres great support here, but its ralph fiennes who shines here, playing the life insurence head guy, and not a very god husband, hacking back to days when women are for the home, hes exellent, a great soundtrack rounds things off for a great debut from the two.
