Review of Celebrity (1998) by Josh H — 14 Dec 2008
Really? A three star composite score? I guess people just can't handle the truth. Sure, Branagh playing a stuttering, vocally incompetent Woody Allen is annoying knowing that he's this generation's greatest male Shakespearian. However, the relation between the sexes as depicted in this film is spot on. Let me quote a lesser movie that might be more your taste: "the truth...YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!" Well...let me admit that I find it hard to believe that the bumbling Branagh/Allen character can get so many women...but everything else is truth.
Also, I will grant that it's a little darker and more unsettling than some other Allen films, but seriously...compare it to the average big-budget pic. It's still a decent 4/5. Remember: 4/5 = 8/10. I'm only claiming a solid 'B' here...
