Review of Cats Don't Dance (1997) by Jiana W — 23 Sep 2009
Quite possibly one of the most severely under-rated animated films ever. The movie was released around the same time as bigger movies (like Disney's "Hercules", "Good Burger", and "Batman & Robin") and was subsequently overshadowed, especially due to its poor advertising/marketing. Rumor has it there was only one theatrical trailer released for it. And that's a shame because, in my opinion, this was better than "Hercules", "Good Burger", and CERTAINLY "Batman & Robin". The movie is excellent and if it had gotten better advertising there is no doubt that this would have done much better than it did at the box office.
That aside, "Cats Don't Dance" is a charming and funny film with a really great soundtrack. The follow-your-dreams message is uplifting and never gets old. Love the voice actors and random humor. Love every single song that the character's sing (and for me, that's pretty rare when watching a musical.) Love this movie and I'm surprised I haven't bought the DVD yet.
