Review of Cat People (1942) by Jack S — 21 Jan 2008
A very different style of horror film. Modern audiences might be unjustifiably bothered by the pacing, and perhaps justifiably thrown off by some over-the-top touches: a man proposing on the second date, a not-remotely-consummated marriage, some of the dialogue, etc.
But the film creates a tense mood without resorting to cheesy shock tactics. The lighting is brilliant. This film will stay with me.
