Review of Cat People (1942) by Brian S — 03 Jul 2011
A surprisingly decent movie. the plot's pretty predictable and the dialogue's nothing spectacular, but the characters are very well-written and there are several legitimate moments of suspense.
the personal drama among the four leads is great, and I especially feel for Simone Simon's character near the end. I would have loved some more detail about the cat people, though. the story only had a mild flavor of ancient evil curses, and I think if it were stronger the film would have been much more chilling.
as it is, though, the few passing expositional references and plot subtleties only left me wanting more. not perfect, but definitely better than expected.
