Review of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) by Katherine G — 25 Dec 2007
I watched this movie again recently and it remains the most powerful piece of dramatic cinema that I have ever seen. Paul Newman's smoldering hatred is evident from the very moment we lay our eyes on him, a perfect complement to the beautiful Elizabeth Taylor's sexual frustration.
The dialogue is top-notch and the story progression is handled smoothly, giving each actor their moment in the spotlight. The continual shifts in the characters' relationships eventually result in an explosive and stormy climax, before finally settling into the brief yet satisfying conclusion.
This movie is writing at its very best.
