Review of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) by Ali S — 12 Oct 2010
Lordy lifting, Paul Newman was one dapper dan! He had me swooning throughout the whole movie.
Now that I have that out of the way, let's talk about the film. I just love these old classics. I love that they couldn't rely on special effects or elaborate sets to entice. Instead, it all came down to story and acting. Every now and then today you will get a film that feels like a play (films like Closer) and when that happens, it's amazing. However, it's rare. So, it's a lot of fun to put in a DVD like Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and see people act their hearts out. That was certainly the case for Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman in this film. They portrayed a relationship that was passionate and volatile. The story and its themes are still completely relevant for today.
So, if you haven't seen Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, I would urge you to do so. While it won't go down as one my favourite movies of all time, it is indeed a worthy piece of art.
