Review of Casino Jack (2010) by Scott M — 14 Dec 2010
Despite a strong start and a solid performance from Kevin Spacey, the general wackiness of the film wore on me. The film has all the subtle touch of a sledgehammer, presenting this true story in such a fast food manner that it loses all impact.
While I admire the effort of approaching the film by taking this crazy guy who acted like a horny teenager and somehow managed to take over Washington for a short time and making the film in somewhat the same manner, I think what the film needed was to rein in a bit of that craziness, perhaps showing the real world stakes of the crimes Abramoff committed.
For a much better film about the same topic, see the documentary from this year called "Casino Jack and the United States of Money.".
