Review of Carol (1990) by Daniel S — 07 Jan 2016
Effective drama about two women falling in love during a time when it was condemned, both in society/media and among families, the film does a good job showing the romance develop over time, and not some corny love at first sight, I know Mara won Best Actress at Cannes, and while she is good, I personally thought Blanchett was better, her struggle had more at stake (and maybe she's just a better actor than Mara) Sarah Paulson is good as Carol's friend/ex and Kyle Chandler plays her asshole ex-husband well, also the Riddler from Gotham shows up! and Carrie from Portlandia pop up! Very nice cinematography, and a quality Carter Burwell score, even though it does sound a lot like his other ones.
