Review of Carnival of Souls (1962) by Sage S — 14 Nov 2010
I came across this film on someone's "Best Scary Movies" list and decided to check it out on Netflix. Between the haunting camera shots and the creepy organ music, I can definitely understand why this became a cult classic.
It was shot on a $33,000 budget with a no-name actress and the director, Herk Harvey, used himself as the ghoulish "Man" who keeps popping up to scare the main character. The plot was a bit flimsy, but the chilling atmosphere and Hilligoss's performance carries the movie through to the end.
