Review of Carnival of Souls (1962) by Keith M — 14 Oct 2012
To me, this film seemed almost like the Inception of (1960s) horror... I wasn't quite sure if the main character was actually deceased and reduced to ghost status, or if she was experiencing a very random descent into madness due to the very real horrors that lie in her society and its roles for women.
Either of these could definitely be argued for. The editing/transitioning needed work, the sound mixing was off kilter at times, and the ending was a bit drab... but other than that, this is a solid, 'old school' horror film that can generate a decent amount of thinking from its audience members.
