Review of Carnal Knowledge (1971) by Shawn W — 01 Jul 2008
Jack Nicholson is all about the tits until he makes one of himself, and Art Garfunkel struggles to fit in until society catches up with his hairstyle.
In its day it was probably revelatory - nearly 40 years on and it all feels very familiar. In each situation, it's the woman who has the power to control (or not) the course of the relationship, and they make their own mistakes in the process. Ann-Margret is inspired and I found her descent from spunky vixen to passive doormat superbly performed.
Definitely not a date movie.
