Review of Caramel (2007) by Sarah M — 20 Jul 2010
Very nice movie. I did occasionally get caught up in the dialogue (the Lebanese dialect incorporates a LOT of French, and everyone was always saying "bye" to each other) but the stories were really interesting too. Very female-centric (sort of a chick-flick) focusing on the lives of several women who work at or go to a salon in Beirut. Each one is living a lie in one way or another and has to come to terms with those situations. Some are resolved by the end of the film, and some are not.
Rose's story reminded me of Laura Linney's character in Love Actually.
