Review of Caramel (2007) by Claudia F — 23 Mar 2012
Most of the time, people travel and come back home exactly the same. Some times, some movies allow us to travel and experience other cultures without leaving our couch, and this is the case with Caramel.
The director Nadine Labaki trough her character - Layale, is able to address so many aspects of the female world in Beirute that amazes me. From Layale that finds herself stuck being a mistress that waits for her lover to leave his wife to her Muslim girlfriend bride-to-be Nisrine (Yasmine Al Masri) that is afraid because her fiancee has no idea that he is not going to be the first one, these women represent women no matter the culture that surround us.
It is for sure a 5-star movie.
