Beautifully photographed, but emotionally obvious, "Captain Corelli's Mandolin fails to provoke the response it wishes, since the script plays far too melodramatic and fails to spark much interest.
Nicolas Cage is a soldier who is stationed on the Greek Mediterrainian island of Cephallonia when Italy invades the island during World War II. He becomes interested in the pretty local girl, played by Penelope Cruz.
