Review of Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001) by Little A — 13 Jun 2007
I really like Cage, but BLECH, he did NOTHING to Antonio Corelli. Cruz was okay, decent acting.
The scenery was GORGEOUS, and the sub characters were wonderful.
John Hurt (Dr. Iannis Pelagia's dad) was so warm and caring and emulated everything that Cage should have. The little girl who played Lemoni was also so beautiful. I adored seeing her and the other less important characters. They were what gave it any heart.
For those who think it's a chick flick. Uh-I don't think so. I cannot stand MEN who stereotype anything with LOVE in it as a chick flick. It's not--there is more violence, gore, horror (as was WWII) in it than sex. There is maybe 10 minutes TOPS of actually lovey dovey crap...
