Review of Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) by Tim S — 04 Mar 2015
Captain America: The First Avenger is definitely much better than I anticipated upon its initial ad campaign. It's one of those crowd-pleasing action adventures with a ton of heart. Despite there being an abundance of adventure and great storytelling, there's only a small amount of character-driven action.
There are also a couple of other things that bother me about the movie. First of all, the ending ties itself into another movie in a very jarring and uninteresting way, leaving the character's journey abruptly unfinished.
Second, but only minor, there are areas in the middle part of the film that tended to drag a little bit. Third, the love interest aspect felt incomplete. The first half of the movie is definitely more interesting and better crafted than the second half, but it's still worth at least a watch, and this is coming from a non-Marvel fan.
