Review of Captain America (1990) by Andy N — 19 May 2014
This film gets a lot of the Captain America mythos wrong, but even though it's a pretty bad film, I was quite surprised that there were a few good scenes. Had the story been tweaked, the director better, better dialog, I can't help but think that this could have been a good movie.
The costume was actually decent by 90s standards. It is a complete recreation of his comic book costume. No it's not necessarily flattering on the actor, but it works. The shield was also pretty awesome.
It's a hard gimmick to pull off and on the shoe string budget of this film, you have to give them credit for trying. What I really enjoyed about the film was the culture shock scenes. You really see Captain America's pain and eventual acceptance of the world he now lives in.
The woman he loved/lives with another man, the state of America, the technology, etc. Red Skull just doesn't get enough screen time. I don't know why, but this version of Red Skull is awesome.
He's one off the few things that they got right. His story is tragic, but then he fully embraces his super villain side. I wish we could have gotten more of his character and less of his off spring.
The movie is terrible, but there are a few things I was surprised to see. If you're looking for some cheesy, terrible fun or like pieces of Marvel cinematic history, then check this out.
