Review of Capricorn One (1977) by Dave P — 20 Jul 2012
Probably one of the best of the 70's 'conspiracy thrillers' it stars James Brolin, Elliott Gould and a certain OJ Simpson...it tells the story of a planned mission to Mars. At the last minute, when the rocket is due to launch, they are taken off and told that due to fault, they cannot go but the rocket still takes off anyway.
Taken to a soundstage in Nevada they are told that the landing will be faked. This all goes to plan except on way back, the spaceship burns up..so NASA is left with three 'dead' astronauts who of course if they ever turn up anywhere would blow apart the conspiracy.
Escaping, the men are then hunted down by their own government. The film is superb with strong performances from Brolin and Gould in particular. Well worth watching and strongly recommended.
