Review of Cape Fear (1991) by Brandon S — 12 Feb 2010
It's almost disturbing how flat out awesome Scorsese and De Niro are together... powerhouses of cinema and most definitely one of the best actor and director duos of all time. Overall it's a pretty grueling and ugly film, highlighted by coolly stylized cinematography and editing.
The acting is great, Scorsese and Nolte really drawing you into the horror of the scenario, with Mitchum and Peck making neat cameos in nod to the original. Also Joe Don Baker was rather capable in his role even if the character was not.
Also it's interesting to notice how easy it is for Scorsese can switch genres, this being his first and only technical thriller, marking positive signs for the upcoming "Shutter Island.".
