Review of Calvaire (2005) by Ross D — 14 Jun 2007
Yearning. That's what this film is about. Whether it be an old woman starved for intimacy, a slutty nurse starved for a fuck, or an entire village starved for love; this film is about that yearning.
Almost every human interaction in this film is intentionally awkward with pauses of silence & anxious laughter; making us wait for the moment when the shit finally hits the fan. The actors do a terrific job of making the audience feel uncomfortable, and a cameo appearance by the superb Phillipe Nahon only adds to the experience.
So swing by Video Difference this Friday and pick this one up for the weekend.
